Greece allocates €140 million for water and wastewater projects

The Greek Ministry of National Economy and Finance has announced €140 million in new funding through the ESPA 2021-2027 ‘Environment and Climate Change’ program. The funds are designated for holistic water management, urban wastewater treatment, and water conservation projects.

These pilot projects will be implemented in four specific regions: the Evros Wetland and Alexandroupoli, the Corinthian and Saronic Gulfs, Kassandra in Chalkidiki, and Rethymno. The initiative aims to create economically sustainable water and sewage management systems tailored to local needs.

Eligible beneficiaries are limited to specific water supply authorities and local government bodies, such as EYDAP S.A., the Municipality of Kassandra, and the water supply authorities (DEYA) of Rethymno, Corinth, and Alexandroupoli. The funding covers a wide range of infrastructure, including drinking water supply, network upgrades, wastewater collection and treatment, stormwater management, and energy efficiency improvements.
