Greece allocates €8.2 million for business battery storage subsidies
Greece has completed the evaluation for the ‘Storage Systems in Businesses’ program, unlocking €8.15 million in subsidies for 209 companies. This marks the first support program for battery storage aimed at non-residential consumers. The eligible applications represent storage systems with a total capacity of approximately 28.2 MW and a subsidized capacity of 49.3 MWh, accompanied by 30.8 MW of photovoltaic power.
Small businesses comprise the majority of the beneficiaries, with 175 out of 209 applications belonging to small enterprises, compared to 23 medium and 11 large companies. Subsidy rates range from 30% to 50% depending on the size of the business. Regarding the technical setup, 63% of the investments involve net-billing, while the remaining 37% involve zero feed-in systems.
A second funding wave of €50 million is currently being prepared for businesses and local government organizations, focusing on storage for self-consumption. This is part of a larger €200 million package funded via the escape clause. These initiatives align with the government's roadmap to reduce electricity prices by 30% over the next three years by prioritizing batteries, renewable energy sources, and self-consumption.
