Greece and Bulgaria sign €33.4 million for 21 cross-border projects
Greece and Bulgaria have signed funding agreements for 21 new cross-border projects under the Interreg VI-A Greece-Bulgaria 2021–2027 program. The total budget for these initiatives is €33.4 million.
The projects are categorized into four primary areas:
• Green transition and circular economy: Six projects with a €9.7 million budget focused on sustainable resource management. • Environmental protection and biodiversity: Six projects with a €9.7 million budget aimed at nature conservation, green infrastructure, and pollution reduction. • Education and social inclusion: Three projects totaling €4.2 million to improve access to quality education and expand online and remote learning. • Cultural heritage and sustainable tourism: Six projects with a €9.6 million budget to leverage regional cultural assets for local economic development and innovation.
In Bulgaria, the projects involve the Blagoevgrad, Smolyan, Kardzhali, and Haskovo regions. On the Greek side, activities cover Thessaloniki, Serres, Drama, Kavala, Thasos, Xanthi, Rodopi, and Evros. A total of 87 organizations are participating, including 39 from Bulgaria and 48 from Greece.
