Greece and Cyprus discuss defense cooperation and regional security

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias met with Cypriot Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas in Athens to discuss strengthening bilateral defense cooperation and regional security. The ministers emphasized that Greece and Cyprus constitute an ‘axis of stability, seriousness, and security in the Eastern Mediterranean.’

Key topics of discussion included the Cyprus issue, with Dendias expressing support for President Nicos Christodoulides’ efforts toward a resolution. The leaders also addressed security developments in the wider Middle East and the war in Ukraine. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation within the framework of international law, the United Nations, and the Law of the Sea.

Dendias also provided updates on the implementation of the ‘Agenda 2030,’ highlighting the development of innovative products and advanced technologies in defense. The meeting also explored enhancing cooperation within European defense industry programs.

At the start of the meeting, Dendias expressed condolences regarding the loss of two Air Force officers, Ioannis Blesia and Dimitrios Petrou, following a recent aircraft accident, noting that in such difficult times, the two nations stand together as ‘brothers’ as well as partners.
