Greece and France agree to coordinate on EU agricultural policy

Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margaritis Schinas, met with his French counterpart, Annie Genevard, in Paris to strengthen cooperation on key European agricultural issues.

The discussions focused on the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the upcoming budget negotiations for the period following 2027. Both nations emphasized the importance of reciprocity in trade, advocating that agricultural products entering the European market must adhere to the same strict rules and requirements applied to European producers.

Other critical topics included the impact of prolonged droughts, climate change adaptation, and the management of water resources, which is a growing concern for Southern European countries. Additionally, the ministers addressed the prevention and management of zoonotic diseases, focusing on enhanced surveillance and the restoration of livestock capital. The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination through the EU Council of Agriculture and Fisheries (AGRIFISH) and the MED9 framework.
