Greece and Israel discuss maritime cooperation and IMEC corridor

Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, met with the new Israeli Ambassador to Greece, Pninat Yanai, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in shipping, technology, and regional security.

A central topic of the meeting was the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Kikilias described the corridor as a ‘very ambitious plan’ and expressed hope that the new trade route would pass through Israel and subsequently through Greek ports to reach the Atlantic coast. He noted that such a connection could provide ‘new dynamics to shipping, commodities, and the economy’ while creating jobs.

Ambassador Yanai highlighted Greece’s status as a ‘global leader in shipping’ and its developing blue economy. She emphasized that Israel serves as a hub for innovation and technology, suggesting that combining these strengths could create a ‘new bridge’ for business opportunities and economic growth between the two nations.
