Greece and Italy sign €460M deal for two FREMM frigates
Greece and Italy have signed an implementing agreement in Rome for the acquisition of two FREMM Bergamini-class frigates for the Hellenic Navy. The deal, valued at approximately €460 million, involves the transfer of the vessels Carlo Bergamini (F-590) and Virginio Fasan (F-591) from the Italian Navy.
The first frigate is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2028, followed by the second in the first half of 2029. The agreement, facilitated by Fincantieri, includes provisions for Greek shipyards to participate in maintenance and the integration of new systems.
This acquisition is part of a broader strategic effort to modernize the Hellenic Navy and enhance regional deterrent capabilities. The agreement also includes an option for Greece to acquire two additional frigates in the future.
