Greece and UNESCO discuss cultural heritage cooperation

Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni held discussions with UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany and Deputy Director-General for Culture Nayef Al-Fayez to review the broad framework of cooperation between Greece and UNESCO.

The talks focused on Greece’s potential to provide technical expertise to African nations regarding the documentation, maintenance, and preservation of cultural heritage. Key areas for collaboration include museology, museum management, the production of museum replicas, professional training for cultural workers, and the protection of heritage during public works.

Mendoni also provided updates on Greece’s upcoming submissions to the World Heritage List. Notable upcoming candidates include the archaeological site of Nicopolis and the Cyclades cheesemaking tradition, which is being prepared for inclusion in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
