Greece and US strengthen strategic ties during Marco Rubio visit
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio have underscored the strengthening bilateral relationship between Greece and the United States during a recent visit to Athens. The discussions, held under the framework of the Greece-US Strategic Dialogue, focused on defense, energy, infrastructure, and regional stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis highlighted Greece’s role as a key link to the Middle East, the Persian Gulf, and India, particularly through the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Regarding defense, Mitsotakis emphasized Greece’s commitment to maintaining strategic superiority through the acquisition of F-35 fighter jets, the modernization of F-16s, the procurement of Belharra frigates, and the implementation of the ‘Achilles Shield’ air defense system.
Secretary Rubio identified Greece as an indispensable partner in the Eastern Mediterranean. The visit also touched upon technological cooperation and the importance of Greece’s strategic position in global energy and security networks.
