Greece implements road safety measures for October 28 celebrations
The Hellenic Police have announced enhanced road safety and traffic policing measures across Greece for the October 28 national holiday. These measures will be in effect from Tuesday, October 27, through Wednesday, October 28, 2026, aimed at ensuring safe travel and preventing accidents during the holiday period.
Key enforcement actions include increased police presence at major urban entrances and exits, high-accident zones, and mass transit hubs such as airports and ports. Officers will conduct intensive checks for dangerous violations, including speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, improper overtaking, mobile phone use while driving, and failure to use seatbelts or helmets.
Additionally, traffic restrictions will apply to heavy goods vehicles exceeding 3.5 tons on several major motorways and national roads. On October 27, restrictions apply from 16:00 to 22:00 for outbound traffic from urban centers, and on October 28, from 16:00 to 23:00 for inbound traffic. Exemptions are granted to emergency vehicles, food transport vehicles, and certain essential services.
