Greece announces economic package with wage and pension increases

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced a comprehensive economic package aimed at boosting disposable income and supporting various social groups through 2030. The measures, presented at the Thessaloniki International Fair, include a €3.5 billion investment in tax cuts and wage increases.

Key provisions include raising the minimum wage to €1,000 by January 2028, with potential increases to €1,300 including seniority bonuses. Public sector employees are set to receive a €500 gross annual Christmas bonus starting in December 2027. Retirees and persons with disabilities will see their annual financial assistance increase from €300 to €400 starting in November 2026.

Tax relief is also a central component, with zero income tax for professional farmers and families with three children earning up to €20,000. Additionally, the government aims to reduce unemployment to 6% and lower public debt to below 110% of GDP by 2030. Other measures include housing support for healthcare workers and new programs to assist young people in acquiring their first homes.
