Greece announces 23 billion euros in social and economic programs

Greek Deputy Economy Minister Nikos Papathanasis announced that social and economic programs have increased to 23 billion euros for the 2021–2025 period, up from 10 billion in the previous five years. Key upcoming measures include a financial tool for freelancers expected in December featuring loans with a 0.35% interest rate, and innovation-related investment subsidies of up to 67% starting in October. Additionally, the 'Spiti 3' housing program is undergoing final technical preparations, aiming to assist 15,000 citizens with subsidies ranging from 50% to 75% to purchase homes.

In political opposition, SYRIZA official Nikos Pappas argued that the Greek government's claims regarding limited fiscal space are inaccurate. Pappas asserted that European fiscal rules offer flexibility and challenged the administration's stance on the feasibility of a 13th pension payment, suggesting that fiscal policy is a matter of political choice rather than absolute constraint.
