Greece announces €263.5 million for agricultural modernization

The Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food has announced a new call for interest for Improvement Schemes, allocating €263.5 million in public funds to modernize Greek agricultural holdings. Announced by Minister Margaritis Schoinas and General Secretary Argyro Zerva, the initiative integrates three different interventions under a single framework to support modernization, water conservation, renewable energy, and the circular economy.

Funding is available for various needs, including the construction and expansion of agricultural buildings, the purchase of new machinery, the installation of crops, and investments in renewable energy for farm use. For natural and legal persons, subsidized budgets can reach up to €750,000, while collective schemes may receive up to €1.25 million. The goal is to utilize Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) resources to reduce production costs and increase farmer income.

In related developments, officials have emphasized the need for livestock restructuring to combat animal disease outbreaks and the importance of attracting new farmers to the sector. Discussions also highlighted the necessity of improving irrigation planning and protecting the quality and standardization of Greek products to maintain competitiveness in international markets.
