Greece announces major reforms to preschool education and family support

Domna Michailidou, the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, has announced three major changes to preschool education in Greece as part of a broader demographic policy.

First, the income threshold for families with two children will increase to €37,000. Second, families with three or more children will gain access to preschool services without income criteria. Third, the value of vouchers for nursery schools will increase by 10%, supported by a €37 million budget aimed at expanding available positions.

Additionally, the Minister highlighted the ‘Neighborhood Nannies’ program, which assists parents in balancing work and family life. Under this initiative, a nanny can care for up to three children and earn up to €1,500 per month. The Minister also mentioned expansions to the ‘My Home’ housing program and the ‘Koumparas for the New Generation’ initiative to support young adults.
