Greece announces pension increases and energy subsidies

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced a series of economic measures aimed at supporting pensioners and households facing high living costs.

Regarding pensions, the monthly supplement for eligible individuals will increase from 300 to 400 euros. This expansion applies to all pensioners over the age of 65, as well as those with disabilities and uninsured elderly citizens. To qualify, income thresholds have been raised: the annual family income limit for single beneficiaries has increased to 25,000 euros, while for married couples or partners in a civil union, it has risen to 35,000 euros.

Additionally, the government is introducing energy support measures to protect households and businesses. These include subsidies for heating oil, with a target sales price below 1.75 euros per liter starting October 15, and the extension of state aid for fuel oil. The Prime Minister also intends to address fuel excise tax reductions at the upcoming European Union summit to provide greater fiscal flexibility for member states.
