Greece announces remedial teaching framework for middle schools
Greece has outlined the framework for remedial teaching in middle schools for the 2026-2027 school year. This compensatory education structure aims to reintegrate students into the learning process, improve academic performance, and reduce school dropout rates.
The program covers six core subjects: Modern Greek Language and Literature, Ancient Greek Language and Literature, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English. The weekly schedule varies by grade level:
- 1st Grade (A' Gymnasio): 11 hours per week, including three hours of Modern Greek, two hours of Ancient Greek, three hours of Mathematics, one hour of Physics, and two hours of English. - 2nd and 3rd Grade (B' and G' Gymnasio): 12 hours per week, adding one hour of Chemistry to the curriculum.
Each teaching hour is 45 minutes long, with a 5-minute break between sessions. The program is not conducted during school holidays or official holidays.
