Greece announces rent reimbursements for educators and healthcare workers

Thousands of educators and healthcare workers in Greece are set to receive rent reimbursements this autumn. The initiative targets professionals serving in regional areas away from their permanent residences.

Two separate payment phases are scheduled. The first involves retroactive payments for 2024 rents, which are due by late September. The second phase covers 2025 rents and is expected to be completed by the end of November. For the general category of eligible recipients, payments will be made as a lump sum to IBAN accounts registered via myAADE.

Specific groups eligible for enhanced support include permanent and substitute teachers, as well as special education staff. In the healthcare sector, beneficiaries include doctors, dentists, and specialists within the National Health Service (ESY), hospital staff, nursing and auxiliary personnel, and EKAB ambulance crews. This special assistance applies to those serving in regional areas, excluding the Attica Region and the Thessaloniki Metropolitan Unit, though the Islands Regional Unit is included.
