Greece attracts $26 B in energy funding and surge in wealth‑migration visas
In the past month Greece’s energy sector has drawn more than €23 billion (about $26.3 billion) from global investors such as BlackRock, Vanguard, Norway’s sovereign fund and the Qatar Investment Authority. The capital boost includes a €4.25 billion share increase by Public Power Corporation and a €1 billion oversubscribed issue by grid operator IPTO, with the Greek state retaining a controlling stake. These funds are earmarked for expanding clean‑energy projects, data centers and regional transmission networks, positioning Greece as a transit hub for Central, Eastern and Southern European power.
At the same time, Greece’s Golden Visa program is drawing high‑net‑worth individuals, especially from the United States. Approximately 1,200 wealthy investors relocate each year, bringing roughly $7.7 billion in assets. The country’s recent upgrade to investment‑grade status by Moody’s and other rating agencies in 2025 has reinforced confidence, making Greek residency a strategic entry point for broader European wealth‑planning structures.
