Greece begins seasonal influenza vaccination campaign

Greece has launched its seasonal influenza vaccination campaign, with vaccines available in pharmacies starting October 1. Deputy Health Minister Eirini Agapidakis emphasized the importance of timely vaccination, noting that the influenza virus is expected to circulate alongside SARS-CoV-2 this season.

Health experts recommend receiving the vaccine between mid-October and late November to allow approximately two weeks for immunity to develop. The vaccination can be administered on the same day as a COVID-19 vaccine, provided it is given at a different injection site.

Priority groups for vaccination include individuals aged 60 and older, infants and children aged 6 months to 5 years, pregnant women, and people with chronic respiratory, cardiac, or metabolic conditions. Healthcare workers and individuals living in long-term care facilities are also encouraged to get vaccinated to protect themselves and the broader community.
