Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania launch 22.8 billion euro transport corridor

Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania have signed an action plan in Brussels for 25 high-priority infrastructure projects aimed at creating a new geopolitical and energy corridor. The initiative, valued at approximately 22.8 billion euros, seeks to establish a continuous transport axis connecting the Aegean Sea to the Danube, Romania, and the Black Sea, with potential future links to Moldova and Ukraine.

The plan focuses on upgrading railways, road connections, ports, and Danube bridges, alongside improving traffic management systems. A major emphasis is placed on railway infrastructure to achieve higher speeds, increased capacity, electrification, and improved interoperability through European safety standards. This development is intended to strengthen Greece's role as an energy gateway to the Balkans and Eastern Europe.
