Greece celebrates August Full Moon 2026 at archaeological sites

The Greek Ministry of Culture is organizing the 2026 August Full Moon celebrations, a tradition marking its 27th consecutive year. On Friday, August 28, 2026, 126 archaeological sites, historical locations, monuments, and museums across the country will offer free admission to visitors.

The program includes organized events at 61 specific sites, while another 65 locations will remain open for public viewing during late-night hours. The festivities extend beyond the night of the full moon, with activities scheduled for August 26, 27, 29, and 30. The program features theatrical performances, music, dance, exhibitions, and guided tours.

In Thessaloniki, the Archaeological Museum will host a two-day event on August 28 and 29. The museum will offer free tours of its exhibitions, including "Field, House, Garden, Place" and "Memory and... Stones," as well as musical sets and a theatrical premiere of "Signals of Lyra" by the Thespis theater laboratory on August 29.
