Greece offers free entry to 126 cultural sites for August full moon
Greece will host a nationwide celebration of the August full moon on Friday, August 28, 2026. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, 126 archaeological sites, museums, and historical monuments across the country will offer free admission to the public.
The event coincides with a partial lunar eclipse, known as the ‘Oxyrynchos Moon,’ which is expected to be visible in the early morning hours. To mark the occasion, 61 of these locations will host organized cultural activities, including musical performances, theatrical shows, dance, and guided tours.
Specific highlights include night tours at the Palamidi Fortress in Nafplio, musical evenings at the Archaic Temple of Apollo in Ancient Metropoli, and extended hours at the Acropolis Museum and the National Archaeological Museum. The celebrations aim to allow visitors to experience Greece’s cultural heritage under the moonlight.
