Greece celebrates traditional Panigiri and local wine festivals

Greece is observing a season of traditional festivities, highlighted by the August 15th Panigiri celebrations and local cultural events. The Panigiri, often centered around religious holidays like the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, serves as a vital social pillar across the country, from Epirus and Macedonia to the Aegean islands and Crete. These celebrations, which include music, dance, and communal meals, are recognized by the Greek state as part of the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

In Mesenikola, the local Wine Festival has also commenced, celebrating the region's viticultural traditions. The event features local wine producers and live musical performances. Recent performances included bouzouki player Manolis Karantinis, with upcoming scheduled acts featuring traditional musicians such as Giorgos Kotsinis and Antonis Kyritsis, as well as contemporary artists Thodoris Kotonia and Savveria Margiola.
