Greece commemorates October 28 national anniversary

Various commemorative events were held across Greece to honor the anniversary of October 28, 1940.

In Elis, the Municipality of Elis organized a memorial service at the Amaliada Cultural Center. The event focused on the fighters of the 5th Infantry Regiment and the battle at Hill 731, specifically honoring Major Dimitrios Kaslas. The ceremony included historical analysis of the Italian “Primavera” spring offensive and traditional dances representing the era. Local officials, including the Metropolitan of Elis and Olympia and Member of Parliament Dionysia Avgerinopoulou, attended the proceedings.

In Farsala, ceremonies took place at the City Hall square in front of the local War Memorial. Due to rainy weather, the student parade was canceled, but the event proceeded with a memorial service and the laying of wreaths by local authorities, including Mayor Iordanis Eskiloglou and Member of Parliament Christos Kapetanos. A significant moment of the ceremony was the reading of the roll call for 40 fallen soldiers from the Farsala region.
