Greece celebrates 28th of October national anniversary FAST-MOVING
Greece marked the national anniversary of the 28th of October, commemorating the historic ‘OXI’ (No) of 1940. Celebrations took place across the country, including major military and student parades in Thessaloniki and Athens.
In Thessaloniki, the military parade featured new weaponry and innovation systems, including drone defense technology and command vehicles, as part of the ‘Achilles Shield’ program. Air demonstrations by the Zeus aerobatic team were also a highlight. In Athens, large student parades were held at Syntagma Square to honor those who fought during the Greco-Italian War.
Regional celebrations occurred in various municipalities, including Rethymno, Messini, Syros, Argos, and Chersonissos, involving religious services, wreath-laying ceremonies, and local parades. The day also coincided with the religious feast of the Holy Protection of the Virgin Mary (Agia Skepi), a tradition linked to the spiritual support reported by Greek soldiers on the Albanian front in 1940.
