Greece holds nationwide commemorations for Asia Minor Genocide

Various commemorative events were held across Greece to mark the National Memory Day of the Genocide of the Greeks of Asia Minor by the Turkish State. These ceremonies honored the victims of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the subsequent displacement of Greek populations.

In Athens, central ceremonies included flag raising at the Acropolis, services at the Cathedral of Athens, and wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Regional commemorations took place in several cities, including Mytilene, Heraklion, Preveza, Florina, Larissa, Thessaloniki, and Central Macedonia.

Local authorities, political representatives, military officials, and refugee associations participated in the rites, which typically included religious services, memorial speeches, and the laying of wreaths at local monuments. Speakers emphasized the importance of preserving historical truth, the cultural legacy of the refugees, and the ongoing pursuit of international recognition of the genocide.
