Greece Competition Commission conducts raids over suspected bid rigging

The Hellenic Competition Commission conducted unannounced on-site inspections on October 20, 2026, targeting companies involved in the operation, repair, maintenance, and upgrading of water and sewage networks, as well as wastewater treatment facilities and the supply of related equipment.

The investigation focuses on potential cartels and bid rigging among competitors, which would violate Greek Law 3959/2011 regarding the protection of free competition and Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. These regulations prohibit agreements, decisions of associations, or concerted practices that restrict competition.

The Commission clarified that these inspections are intended to collect evidence regarding anti-competitive practices and do not pre-judge the involvement of the inspected companies or the final outcome of the investigation. The authority remains committed to intervening in cases of market abuse, including price-fixing, market sharing, or the abuse of dominant market positions.
