Greece conducts blood donation drives in Athens and Lamia

Health authorities in Greece are conducting various voluntary blood donation drives to bolster national reserves. In Athens, the National Blood Center (EKEA), in collaboration with STASY, organized a three-day donation event at the Syntagma Metro multi-purpose hall from August 25 to 27. Scientific Director Konstantinos Stamoulis emphasized that blood cannot be manufactured or purchased, relying entirely on anonymous volunteers. He noted that because blood units have a limited lifespan of 35 to 42 days, a continuous flow of donations is required to meet patient needs year-round, even during holiday periods.

In Lamia, the Blood Donation Department of the Lamia General Hospital has scheduled eight community-based donation actions throughout September. These events will take place in various accessible locations, including the Municipality of Xyniados amphitheater, the Sarakaitsani Association hall, and the Galini Hotel. Additionally, military blood donations are scheduled at KEPP Lamia. Hospital Administrator Panagiotis Lachlali highlighted that these external actions are part of a regular effort to ensure blood availability for the community.
