Greece considers diplomatic action following attacks on Greek-owned vessels

Greece is evaluating additional diplomatic and institutional interventions to protect its shipping industry in the Black Sea following attacks on commercial vessels. Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou addressed the Hellenic Parliament, condemning attacks on ships conducting lawful commercial activities, noting that such actions jeopardize maritime safety and crew security.

The announcement follows the recent sinking of a Greek-owned container ship by three unmanned aerial vehicles in waters off Bulgaria. Papadopoulou stated that Greece has already raised the issue at the European level through its Permanent Representation in Brussels. Additionally, a formal reprimand was issued to Ukrainian authorities on September 17 to communicate Greece’s position regarding the attacks on vessels with Greek interests.
