Greece convenes Risk Assessment Committee amid gale-force winds and wildfires

Greece's Risk Assessment Committee convened to address gale-force winds affecting much of the country and to review recent wildfire operations. Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Evangelos Tornaras, reported on a significant wildfire in the Cassandra region of Halkidiki, which impacted both forested areas and residential settlements.

The firefighting effort involved 16 aerial assets and continued through the night with the creation of firebreaks. The fire is currently reported to be in recession. A major evacuation operation successfully moved 446 people to safety using assistance from the Hellenic Police, the Coast Guard, and a vessel provided by SeaJets.
