Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt form trilateral defense alliance

Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt have reached a preliminary agreement to enhance military cooperation and establish a collective defense framework in the Eastern Mediterranean. Following the 6th Trilateral Defense Ministers' Meeting in Cairo, the three nations aim to develop a unified capability for rapid response to threats in the region.

A primary focus of this alliance is the protection of critical energy infrastructure, including natural gas deposits and maritime supply routes, such as the proposed Greece-Egypt electrical interconnection and the Cyprus-Egypt gas pipeline. The agreement emphasizes intelligence sharing and increased military readiness, building upon recent joint exercises like 'MEDUSA 15/2026'.

Beyond defense, the deepening ties may yield economic benefits. Discussions suggest that Egyptian textile mills could utilize Greek cotton to manufacture uniforms for the Greek Armed Forces, potentially adding value to Greek agricultural products through regional industrial cooperation.
