Greek power utility crew attacked in Zonia, Crete during meter upgrade

On 13 July, a crew from the public power utility DEDDIE was attacked while carrying out an electricity‑meter upgrade in the village of Zonia, Crete. According to the technicians, a group of about seven to ten residents, aged 25‑35, surrounded the two‑person team, broke the windows of their service vehicle, and seized a tablet and a meter. One worker was lightly injured when a person brandishing a goat’s horn struck his hand while trying to take the tablet. Bloodstains found on the vehicle were identified as belonging to one of the aggressors.

The technicians did not call the police but reported the incident to their employer. The Union of Technicians of Rethymno condemned the assault, called it “unacceptable,” and urged DEDDIE management and authorities to ensure the safety of workers carrying out such projects.
