Greece: Deputy Minister assures academic year will continue for private universities

Greek Deputy Minister of Education Nikos Papaioannou has assured that the academic year will not be lost following recent decisions by the Council of State (StE) to cancel the operating licenses and program certifications of three non-state universities.

According to the Ministry, the issues regarding building deficiencies and certification criteria are being addressed. The National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications and Vocational Guidance (EOPPEP) and the Hellenic National Agency for Higher Education (ETHAAE) are working to resolve these discrepancies. The government aims to have outstanding issues for already licensed institutions settled by the end of September, while the horizon for new applications is set for late October.

Papaioannou emphasized that the legal framework allows for the rectification of deficiencies within three months, and he expects the recovery of licenses for the affected institutions in the coming days.
