Thanasis Kontogeorgis discusses Greek economic growth and Thessaloniki International Fair
Greek Minister of State Thanasis Kontogeorgis discussed the country's economic direction and the upcoming Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) in an interview with ERTnews. He noted that while the TIF has pre-election characteristics, it is not intended to be merely populist.
Kontogeorgis highlighted positive trends in the Greek tourism sector, stating that during the first five months of the year, travel receipts increased by 25% and arrivals rose by 20%. Regarding economic policy, he emphasized the government's goal to return the "growth dividend" to society fairly and proportionally, specifically targeting pensioners, families with children, and businesses.
Final decisions regarding economic measures, influenced by fiscal space, obligations, surpluses, and energy escape clauses, are expected to be announced at the end of the month during the Thessaloniki International Fair. He also acknowledged the ongoing struggle against the cost of living, noting that while incomes are increasing, the pressure of inflation remains a significant challenge for citizens.
