Greece: Deputy Minister refuses timeline for TEI degree equivalency

Greek Deputy Minister of Education Nikos Papaioannou has stated that the government will not commit to a specific timeline regarding the equivalency of degrees for graduates of the former Technological Educational Institutes (TEI).

Speaking in Parliament during a discussion initiated by independent MP Georgios Manousos, Papaioannou emphasized that the resolution must be based on thorough academic criteria and processes rather than simple political or legislative decisions. He noted that the issue is highly complex and affects the lives of thousands of individuals.

The uncertainty follows the merger of TEIs into existing or new universities under previous legislation. The Deputy Minister maintained that the ministry is working toward a solution that ensures fair and equal treatment for all graduates through formal academic pathways, but declined to provide a deadline of five, ten, or fifteen days for a resolution.
