Kyriakos Mitsotakis announces 2.2 billion euro economic package at TIF

At the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a 2.2 billion euro package of social and economic measures. The initiatives target various demographics, including tax relief for farmers and self-employed professionals, and expanded benefits for families and pensioners.

Key measures include increasing the November pension supplement from 300 to 400 euros for all citizens over 65, and establishing a permanent annual adjustment mechanism for disability benefits starting in 2027. Additionally, the government plans to zero out the tax rate for farmers and livestock breeders with incomes up to 20,000 euros, and expand ENFIA exemptions for primary residences in smaller island settlements.

While some groups, such as the POMIDA union, noted positive steps regarding rental tax exemptions, others have raised concerns. Economic experts and unions have questioned the sufficiency of the measures in addressing the cost of living and demographic challenges, noting that while the package is substantial, its direct impact on household disposable income remains a subject of debate.
