Greece discusses circular economy and regional environmental management

The Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water (RAAEW) held a seminar in Thessaloniki focused on the role of the circular economy and proper waste management in Greece's path toward climate neutrality. The event, held during the 90th International Thessaloniki Fair, highlighted the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, with intermediate targets of reducing emissions by 55% by 2030 and 80% by 2040. Officials emphasized that recycling and resource recovery serve as tools for strategic autonomy by reducing dependence on imported raw materials.

In a separate regional matter, the Municipality of Ioannina addressed resident concerns regarding an informal industrial concentration in the Pedini area. Local authorities are calling for immediate inspections by the Ministry of Environment and the Region to investigate complaints of air, noise, and odor pollution. The municipality aims to use the new Local Urban Plan to establish a long-term spatial solution for the relocation of these industries.
