Greece discusses energy support and labor market strategies

At the EU Energy Ministers Council in Brussels, Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou called for flexibility regarding the escape clause to implement targeted, temporary support measures. These measures aim to reduce energy costs for households and businesses ahead of the upcoming winter. The Minister also addressed energy security, network charges, and post-2030 European goals, while highlighting progress on the Greece-Cyprus electrical interconnection project.

Separately, Gianna Horsova, Administrator of DYPA, outlined strategies to bridge the Greek labor market gap. The agency is shifting focus from traditional unemployment management to active employment and training. Since August 2019, DYPA has implemented or maintained 72 employment programs, benefiting 298,408 citizens through job placement, entrepreneurship, or employment retention. The agency reported an increase in annual beneficiaries from 13,367 in 2019 to over 50,000 during the 2023-2025 period.
