Greece discusses EU pharmaceutical autonomy with SANT Committee

Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis met with members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Public Health (SANT) to discuss strategic autonomy and pharmaceutical policy within the European Union.

Georgiadis emphasized the need for Europe to strengthen its strategic autonomy by enhancing domestic production and diversifying supply chains, noting that much of the production of medicines and active substances currently occurs outside the EU. The goal is to ensure sustainable and timely patient access to medications.

Greece expressed support for the revision of European pharmaceutical legislation, specifically the Critical Medicines Act and the Biotechnology Act. The discussions focused on fostering an environment conducive to innovation and investment while prioritizing safety, quality, and affordability.
