Greece draws art lovers and wine tourists this summer

Athens is hosting a major group exhibition at the George Economou Collection titled “The Way We Live Now,” featuring works by artists such as Lorna Simpson, David Hockney, Lucas Arruda, Charles Ray, Katharina Fritsch and Louise Bourgeois. The show explores contemporary life through historic and mythic lenses and is accompanied by a solo show of sculptures and paintings by Zoë Paul at the Alkinois gallery in the Ano Petralona neighbourhood.

Travel guides highlight several Greek islands for wine‑focused visitors. Santorini’s volcanic soils produce the flagship Assyrtiko grape and sweet Vinsanto wine, while Kefalonia is noted for the elegant white Robola grown on Mount Ainos. Crete, Greece’s largest vineyard area, promotes indigenous varieties such as Vidiano and Liatiko, reflecting a resurgence of winemaking that dates back to the Minoan era.
