Arta: Missing 76-year-old man rescued in rugged terrain
A 76-year-old man who had been missing since Monday, October 19, was found alive in a remote and steep area of the Tzoumerka mountains near the Arta Waterfalls.
The rescue operation was successful thanks to the use of a thermal camera on a drone operated by the Fire Service's 'IKAROS' team. The elderly man, who was found in a state of exhaustion in a difficult-to-reach location, reportedly signaled his presence by waving his hands when he heard the drone overhead.
The search involved a coordinated effort including the Greek Police, fire departments from Northern Tzoumerka and Athamania, the 5th EMODE team, a rescue dog from the 5th EMAK, and the IKAROS drone unit. Following his discovery, the man was transported from the rugged terrain to an ambulance provided by EKAB and taken to a hospital for medical care.
