Greece Economic Forum 2026 expected to focus on tax relief and social support

The upcoming 2026 Economic Forum in Greece is expected to serve as a significant platform for the government to announce new fiscal measures. Following a trend from previous years, the forum has evolved into a tool for income redistribution. While 2023 focused on workers and 2025 targeted the middle class and families, the 2026 package is rumored to focus on reducing tax burdens, supporting businesses, self-employed professionals, retirees, farmers, and housing issues.

However, the event is also facing criticism regarding its political utility. Some observers argue the forum has shifted from an international economic event toward a tool for government propaganda as the third term of the current administration begins. While the government highlights positive indicators such as growth and debt reduction, critics point to structural weaknesses, including low productivity, high trade deficits, and the economic pressure felt by the general population despite positive macroeconomic figures.
