Greece economic updates: Unemployment falls and new family tax reliefs announced

During the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, several key economic developments were highlighted in Greece. Labor Minister Niki Keramei noted that the unemployment rate has fallen below 8% on a quarterly basis for the first time in 18 years, alongside a reduction in non-wage costs.

In support of families, the Ministry of Finance announced a 10% increase in childcare vouchers and an expansion of income thresholds for various categories. Notably, income criteria for families with three children will be removed, and a 0% tax rate will be applied to incomes up to €20,000 for those with three dependents, effective from the 2027 tax year.

However, the agricultural sector expressed significant discontent. Farmers and livestock breeders gathered at the White Tower in Thessaloniki with tractors to protest against the government, claiming that previous promises of support have gone unfulfilled and that the sector is in a state of crisis.
