Greece Education Minister clarifies private teacher experience rules
Greek Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki has provided a written response to the Parliament regarding the calculation of professional experience for private school teachers in ASEP ranking tables. The clarification follows inquiries from MP Maria Athanasiou concerning alleged errors in how experience is credited for teacher recruitment processes.
According to the Ministry, the current legal framework requires the completion of two consecutive school years of full-time employment or service under mandatory leave to qualify for experience credit. Private sector experience is calculated using a coefficient of 0.9 units per month. For cases involving reduced working hours, the Ministry stated that these can be entered and evaluated through a specialized algorithm within the OPSYD system.
While the Minister outlined existing regulations and instructions provided to Education Directorates, the response did not specify whether new interventions would be implemented to address the specific errors reported by teachers.
