Greece-Egypt 3,000 MW Power Interconnector Advances with New Tenders

ELICA, the Copelouzos Group company developing the Greece‑Egypt electricity interconnection, has opened new competitive tenders for key studies required for the GREGY Interconnector. The tenders cover a seabed survey study and an on‑shore civil‑engineering works study, both essential steps before construction of the high‑voltage direct‑current (HVDC) link.

The GREGY Interconnector, designed to transport up to 3,000 MW of clean energy from Egypt to Greece and the wider European grid, will be the first electricity link between Africa and Europe. It is listed under the EU’s Projects of Common Interest and Projects of Mutual Interest and receives funding from the Connecting Europe Facility. The project is expected to reinforce Greece’s position as a regional energy hub and support the EU’s north‑south energy corridor strategy.
