Greek electricity consumers shift toward fixed-rate tariffs

An analysis by the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) reveals a significant shift in the Greek electricity market, with consumers increasingly opting for fixed-rate (blue) tariffs to protect against price volatility. Currently, nine of the ten cheapest electricity tariffs available are fixed-rate, while only one falls under the special (green) category.

For an average household consuming 330 kWh per month, the lowest total cost is offered by PPC’s (DEI) MyHome Online plan at €41.45. Other competitive options include the Volton Blue Student plan at €47.57 and Irion’s green Basic Home plan at €53.71.

Data shows that the market share of fixed-rate contracts rose to 31.62% in June, up from 20.65% the previous year. While green tariffs still cover over 53% of meters, their share has declined from 57% in January. Variable (yellow) tariffs account for 15% of the market. Analysts note that while fixed rates provide a shield against rising wholesale prices, they may result in higher costs if market prices drop significantly below the contracted rate.
