Greece energy infrastructure: Major projects set for 2027

Four major energy infrastructure projects in Greece are scheduled to enter commercial operation by 2027, aiming to reshape the country's energy landscape.

A primary project is the 680 MW pumped storage station in Amphilochia, implemented by TERNA Energy. With a budget of €650 million, it represents Greece's largest investment in energy storage. The facility, located at the Agios Georgios and Pyrgos sites, will utilize the existing Kastrakio lake and is expected to produce approximately 816 GWh of electricity annually, facilitating higher penetration of renewable energy.

Additionally, a 123-kilometer natural gas pipeline connecting Greece and North Macedonia is in its final stages. Managed by DESFA with TERNA as the contractor, the pipeline will run from Nea Mesimvria in Thessaloniki toward Negotino. Construction is expected to conclude by autumn, with commercial operations slated for mid-2027.
