Greece energy market: Low electricity tariffs and heating subsidies announced

Electricity market conditions in Greece show several fixed-rate tariffs currently available below 15 cents per kilowatt-hour, a rate lower than the subsidized prices seen during the 2022-2023 energy crisis. Sources from the Ministry of Environment and Energy indicate that a significant portion of consumers is shifting toward these blue (fixed) tariffs, which rose to 31.62% in June from 28.57% in January.

Regarding heating costs, the government is preparing interventions to manage heating oil prices. The goal is to ensure the starting price on October 15 remains below 1.75 euros per liter. Additionally, heating subsidies for approximately 1.2 million consumers across all heating sources are expected to increase, provided fiscal balance is maintained.

On the household efficiency front, experts highlight that standby power consumption remains a significant source of unnecessary expenditure. High-drain devices that should be unplugged to save money include gaming consoles, desktop computers, televisions, and various kitchen appliances like air fryers and microwaves, which consume power through secondary functions like digital clocks and LED displays.
