Greece evaluates VICTA underwater vehicle procurement
Greece is considering the procurement of 10 new VICTA underwater vehicles for its Special Forces. The VICTA craft, developed by the British company SubSea Craft, is described as a highly advanced vessel incorporating cutting-edge technology.
On January 15, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between SubSea Craft and Skaramangas Shipyards. This agreement outlines the potential future construction of the VICTA vehicles in Greece, contingent upon the procurement by the Greek Armed Forces. The MoU represents the first major agreement under Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, who assumed the role of CEO of Skaramangas Shipyards in May 2024.
While MP Angelos Syrigos highlighted the importance of equipping the Special Forces after a 24-year gap in underwater vehicle availability, discussions remain regarding whether the program is a top priority for the branch or a strategic move to strengthen bilateral relations between Greece and the United Kingdom.
