Greece expands digital patient evaluation system to oncology and pediatric care
The Greek Ministry of Health announced that the digital assessment tool of the National Health System (ESY) will be extended to oncology and pediatric patients. For oncology patients, the rollout occurs in three phases: immediate inclusion for those discharged after surgical procedures, a second phase for patients receiving chemotherapy or immunotherapy, and a final phase—targeted for the first half of 2027—to cover those undergoing radiotherapy. Pediatric patients up to 16 years old will have the questionnaire completed by parents or guardians, with the SMS sent within seven days of discharge.
The questionnaire contains 37 questions covering information on treatment options, pain management, psychological support, and discharge instructions. Adults receive the SMS five days after leaving the hospital, while children’s surveys are sent after seven days; respondents have 14 days to answer. The Ministry reported that 444 SMS were sent and 525 questionnaires completed, yielding an 18.2% response rate. Overall patient satisfaction averaged 4.09 out of 5, with more than 85% expressing confidence in doctors and nurses. The announcement was made by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, with General Secretary of Health Services Lilian Vildridi and Deputy Health Minister Marios Themistokleous providing further details.
